To rejuvenate local craftsmanship and generate employment, Uttar Pradesh Handicrafts Department has launched a terracotta revival mission in Bundelkhand’s Chitrakoot and Jhansi districts. Artisans are trained in both traditional techniques and contemporary designs to make decorative tiles, eco-friendly cookware, and garden ornaments. Products are showcased via e-commerce platforms and state-run exhibitions. Over 1,000 artisans have been trained, and monthly income per household has increased by 40%. The initiative also includes micro-financing for kilns and raw material procurement. Schools are introducing terracotta as a co-curricular activity, fostering cultural pride among youth.
